Jetfire's Final Thoughts - TF by *EboneeV:iconEboneeV:

Jetfire's Final Thoughts

DISCLAIMER:  Transformers, its characters, its concepts, its plotline, its story all belong to Hasbro and Michael Bay.  There is no copyright infringement intended.  I'm doing this just for fun.

NOTE:  This takes place between the time after Jetfire sends the Sam and his companions off into the Egyptian desert and the time he supposedly went off to the final battle.  Jetfire contemplates about his past, his present, and his future.

WARNING:  Movie spoilers!

Jetfire watched as the four humans and their Autobot companions left to find the Matrix of Leadership in the deserts of Egypt.  He would've accompanied them to give them extra protection, but he didn't.  The old Seeker was not as young as he used to be.

He sat down, groaning with the effort, his gears squeaking in protest.  "I used to be young," Jetfire said to himself, "I used to have more energy. But I don't have the dedication that I once had so long ago."

The one-time Decepticon-turned-Autobot stared out into the barren, lifeless desert he had brought his new companions to through a space bridge.  In human terms, that would be equal to teleportation, which was beyond the knowledge and understanding of this small, fleshy race.  He alone knew of its powers and what they would do.  That was why he told them to stay still while he transported them.

He sighed, shaking his head.  What was the use now?  He was too old to help them.  They were on their own now.  He had told them everything he knew about The Fallen and the events that transpired all those millennia ago.  It was only a matter of time before they either found the Matrix or the Decepticons did first, the latter which was something he didn't want to happen.

This is in the hands of the younger generation now, he thought, viewing the vast, empty desert with deep contemplation, I've done my part.  There's nothing more that I can do now.  I wish them luck.

Still, Jetfire couldn't help but feel a little useless.  Years of being in stasis had changed his way of thinking.  Millennia ago, he had been in the prime of his life, eager to take and execute orders from his superiors, reveling in the tasks he had been given.  He was a Decepticon back then.  He had enjoyed the destruction he caused, not caring for the lives that perished too.  It was his way of life.  His livelihood in all respects.

But then he had begun to feel remorse for his actions.  The innocent lives lost as a result were his fault.  He couldn't shake the feeling away.  He couldn't be a Decepticon anymore.

That was when he switched sides.  He left the ranks of the Decepticons and joined the Autobots.  He wanted to make up for his past actions and try to do more good.  That had gone on for awhile.  Then he distanced himself even from the Autobots and took on the guise of an SR-71 Blackbird and tried to act like a normal human plane for once, joining the Air Force and helping the humans perfect their technology.

Jetfire hung on for a few more decades until he couldn't take it any longer and put himself in stasis.  He didn't know that the humans, not understanding the situation, had retired him from active duty and put him in an aviation museum along with a number of other flying machines.  For years, he slept, unaware of the passage of time, until he woken up by the sudden electrical charge of a fragment of the All Spark and discovered the humans and their Autobot friends, plus the little Decepticon spy, Wheelie.

He had to admit that he was a little shaken up and a bit peeved to have been awakened like that.  He almost destroyed the museum as a result, but when the humans explained the situation, he began to see things more clearly and remember stuff that had long since been forgotten while he was in stasis.  The trip through the space bridge was the result, sending everyone to Egypt.  The humans and the Autobots were out there somewhere in the desert looking for the Matrix while he sat along on this rock in the middle of nowhere, lost in thought.

Jetfire lifted his head and found that the day was now fading toward evening.  It had been several hours now since the goup had left.  I must've lost track of time, he thought, staring up at the evening sky and seeing stars start to reveal themselves, I hope that one named Sam and the others are alright out there.

He couldn't really be sure, but he also couldn't find out.  He was too old to make the journal across the desert, even transforming into his jet mode and flying would still be too great of a risk.  But something had been caught in his spark.  He couldn't help notice the youthfulness in Sam's eyes and how eager the boy was to find the Matrix before Megatron and his minions did.  That youthfulness reminded Jetfire of his own youth and what he used to be capable of long ago.

Maybe he wasn't so useless after all.  Maybe it was time for him to do what he used to enjoy doing.  I could help them.  I may be old, but I can certainly still fight.

Jetfire stood up and stared out at the darkening night sky, thinking for a long time.  Then he made up his mind.  I'll go help them.  They must succeed and if I have to die, I'll die fighting.  It's what I was brought online for.

The old ex-Decepticon took a running leap off the ledge that he was standing on, fumbled, then brought his own engines online and took of into the sky, transforming into his Blackbird mode.
